After losing their HHSAA Division II quarterfinal match against Le Jardin, and watching their chance of a third straight state title slip away, the Konawaena Wildcats rebounded in a fifth place semifinal game on Friday against University with a 2-0 sweep.

After losing their HHSAA Division II quarterfinal match against Le Jardin, and watching their chance of a third straight state title slip away, the Konawaena Wildcats rebounded in a fifth place semifinal game on Friday against University with a 2-0 sweep.

The 2-set match was a close one, with Konawaena edging out the ‘Bows 25-23, 25-21.

The Wildcats were led offensively by Celena and Chanelle Molina. Celena picked up 23 assists while Chanelle recorded 12 kills. Chanelle Molina also led the defense with 10 digs, while Cherilyn Molina followed close behind with seven. McKenna Ventura had an all-around solid performance with six kills, nine digs and three blocked shots.

University was led on offense by Gabrielle Lau, who recorded five kills. Taira Ka‘awaloa and Erin Moss recorded four kils each. Camryn Kaina added nine assists and Lau picked up 10 digs.

Konawaena advances to the fifth place finals which is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Wildcats will take on Damien, who defeated Kailua in three sets on Friday, 25-21, 20-25, 15-7.

The Monarchs are led by Shelby Capilonch, who recorded 16 kills in the fifth place semifinal game. Ash-Lynn Herring added 26 assists and Marissa Daligcon recorded seven digs.

Also in Division II, Hawaii Preparatory Academy wrapped up its season with a tough fought 2-1 loss to Kapaa in the consolation finals.

Hawaii Prep took the first set 25-21, before falling in the next two sets, 25-17 and 15-5.

Madi Lee led the HPA offense with 10 kills. Elizabeth Jim added 11 assists. Emma Taylor was the main threat on defense with nine digs.
