Police are seeking witnesses to an accident in Puna, where one driver fled and a motorcyclist was injured.
The collision happened about 10 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Highway 130 and Kukula Street, by Keaau High School.
The wreck was between a Honda motorcycle and a gold Hyundai SUV that was driving the wrong way in the Pahoa-bound lane, police report.
The collision was head-on.
The motorcyclist, who is a 30-year-old Pahoa man, was wearing his helmet. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment, where he remained in fair condition Thursday.
When officers arrived, the driver of the SUV was not in or around the vehicle. They searched the surrounding brush area, but could not locate the driver.
The case has been classified as a negligent injury.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who knows the identity or location of the SUV’s driver to call the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
