Contractors on one South Kohala water well project received an extension until Jan. 1, and a contractor was named for a second project, based on votes by the county Water Board on Tuesday.
An extension was granted to Beylik Drilling and Pump Service Inc., the contractor on the Lalamilo D Deepwell repair project, because of delays caused by the Department of Water Supply. The department had issued a stop work notice to the contractor to maximize the available capacity because two wells within the Lalamilo/Parker water system were offline, and the Lalamilo D Deepwell still was operational at reduced capacity. This action delayed the extraction work and subsequent refurbishment of the existing submersible motor, and was beyond the control of the contractor. The project was originally supposed to be completed by Sept. 27.
The Water Board approved a $323,000 contract to low bidder Derrick’s Well Drilling and Pump Services LLC for repairs to the Parker No. 2 Deepwell. The project includes the replacement of the existing deepwell submersible motor, pump, power cable, column pipe, chlorination of the well and pumping assembly, and all appurtenant equipment, such as strapping and cable guards, in accordance with the plans and specifications. The contractor will have 240 calendar days to complete the project.
The Water Board also approved a $5.3 million contract to low bidder Jas. W. Glover Ltd. for the construction of the Kapulena Well Phase 2 in Hamakua. The project involves construction of a new 0.30 MG concrete reservoir, control building, remote communications system and outfitting of the existing Kapulena deepwell. Improvements will also be made to the existing Kapulena Booster Pump Station and Kukuihaele Reservoir sites.
