A man who barricaded himself in a house in the lower portion of Hawaiian Beaches was arrested on Friday.
Keith Kaapana Cummings, 49, of Pahoa, locked himself inside a home Friday after police attempted to serve him with a protective order.
He then spread a flammable liquid in the house and threatened to ignite it, police said.
There was no one else in the house at the time, and police evacuated nearby homes.
The department’s Special Response Team responded. They negotiated with Cummings and he surrendered without incident, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment.
After consulting with prosecutors, police charged Cummings with second-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment.
His bond was set at $2,500.
This is not his first encounter with police. On Aug. 25, he entered a no contest plea of harassment, negotiated down from abuse of a family or household member from a charge entered on Oct. 10, 2014.
He was charged with harassment on March 31 and pleaded no contest on July 27.
Prosecutors charged him with violation of an order of protection on Jan. 2, 2014. He pleaded no contest to an amended charge of contempt of court.
