Visitors got the chance to step back in time and experience life on an early 20th century coffee farm Saturday at Founders’ Day at the Kona Coffee Living History Farm in Captain Cook. The Uchida family farm features a Kuriba (processing mill), Hoshidana (drying platform with movable roof) farmhouse, furoba (bathhouse), benjo (outhouse), gardens, chicken coop, and coffee land.
In addition to touring the farm, vendors were on hand and demonstrations in weaving, calligraphy, origami and cooking by Chef Sam Choy were available. Entertainment by Hana Aloha Trio and Ukulele Friends, a photo booth and a recognition of 442nd veteran Tomoe Nimori rounded out the free family friendly festivities.
