Konawaena Middle School seeks gifted and talented

Konawaena Middle School is accepting referral applications for its gifted and talented program for the 2015-16 school year. Applications are available at the front office or by contacting Marybeth Murphioka, GT coordinator, at 323-4566 ext. 259 or marybeth_murphioka@notes.k12.hi.us.

The deadline for all referral application is Nov. 13.

Shakespeare fans meet Wednesday

Read Aloud Shakespeare is a group that meets in Kona once a month to read The Bard’s plays. The group is currently reading “The Merchant of Venice.” Shakespeare fans are invited bring a copy of the play and come to the next meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Keauhou.

Construction Services Hawaii wins award

Construction Services Hawaii has been selected for the 2015 Best of Kamuela Award in the Building Construction &Remodeling category by the Kamuela Award Program.

Each year, the Kamuela Award Program identifies companies that it believes have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and the community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2015 Kamuela Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Kamuela Award Program and data provided by third parties.

The Kamuela Award Program is an annual awards program honoring the achievements and accomplishments of local businesses throughout the Waimea area. Recognition is given to those companies that have shown the ability to use their best practices and implemented programs to generate competitive advantages and long-term value.

VFW announces weekly schedule

VFW Post 12112 behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street will host several events this week.

Free coffee will be served to veterans from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Thursday night football will be featured starting at 3 p.m. Thursday with light pupu provided.

Pulled pork, salad and dessert will be served for dinner Friday for $5.

The monthly Bingo Bash is Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and the public is invited. A dinner of chili and rice will be served for $10. With each dinner comes a bingo card and prizes awarded. This is also the Halloween costume party with additional prizes given out to the winners.

Sunday the doors open for football at 10 a.m. with the fans bringing pupu to share.
