Community comes together to ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’

One in seven women in Hawaii has experienced rape in her lifetime, however, only 31 percent of rapes and sexual incidents are reported to police.

On Saturday, men squeezed into high heels for YWCA Hawaii Island’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,” a march that promotes an end to rape, sexual assault and family violence while raising money for Sexual Support Services. Participants walked from Kona International Market to Kona Commons and back in pumps, wedges and even stilettos for the fundraiser.
