Volunteers needed to prepare tax returns
Volunteers are needed to help others file federal and state individual income tax returns through the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs.
Volunteers are certified to prepare simple tax returns for those whose incomes are $53,000 or less. Anyone can be a volunteer and bilingual volunteers are particularly needed. Volunteers can help as return preparers, site coordinators or greeters.
Volunteers will be provided with free training materials on how to prepare basic individual income tax returns and, in most cases, how to file them electronically. Instruction will cover federal and Hawaii state tax returns.
Training is usually held between November and January and volunteers generally study online with Link &Learn Taxes to obtain their volunteer certification. Classroom training may also be available. Once certified, volunteers spend as little as three to four hours per week volunteering between the months of February and April.

Kailua-Kona Seniors to attend movie day
Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Civic Center in Building A to watch the movie “Wait Until Dark.” Kailua-Kona Seniors will not meet that week at Hale Halawai.
The free movie day is open to all interested seniors.

Line dancing
classes planned
Line dancing classes will be held at Kona United Methodist Church on Palani Road starting Thursday.
Line dancing at the beginner level is from 6 to 7 p.m. and for more experienced dancers from 7 to 8 p.m. every Thursday. The session is seven weeks long, ending on Dec. 17 with no class on Thanksgiving.
Cost is $20 for the session or $7 to drop in for one class. For both hours, the fee is $25, or $9 for one night.
Attendees should bring water and wear comfortable clothing and shoes, preferably no brand-new athletic shoes.
All ages are welcome and children younger than 12 years old may attend free of charge.
