Police are searching for a man who allegedly threatened his estranged wife with a handgun Monday evening in Mountain View.

Officers in Puna responded to a call at 5:38 p.m. Monday to a home in the 18-1700 block of Ihope Road in Mountain View.

The people there said Mark Scott Silva, 59, of no permanent address, had gone to the home of his estranged wife and threatened a 20-year-old woman with a handgun.

He then fled on foot into a heavily forested area nearby, police said.

Silva is described as being between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He is Caucasian with hazel eyes, short gray hair and tattoos on both arms. He may have a goatee and was last seen wearing black pants and a black T-shirt. He frequents the Puna area.

Police consider Silva armed and dangerous and “caution anyone who sees him not to approach him.”

Instead, anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
