A magnitude-3.9 earthquake was recorded Thursday evening in the Volcano area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Friday morning, a magnitude-3.1 earthquake was recorded east-northeast of Pahala.
The first earthquake occurred at 8:41 p.m. about 4.1 miles south-southeast of Puu Coo Crater, scientists said. It had a registered depth of 4.5 miles. The second temblor was recorded Friday at 11:57 a.m. about 8.8 miles east-northeast of Pahala. It had a registered depth of 2.2 miles.
No advisory was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center for either earthquake.
