HONOLULU (AP) — A former Honolulu police officer has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison for assaulting two men while on duty.

A federal judge sentenced Vincent Morre Friday to 30 months in prison for violating the men’s civil rights.

Morre resigned from the force after pleading guilty to last year’s assault.

According to the Justice Department, Morre was searching for a fugitive when he entered a Honolulu game room and kicked a man in the head. Prosecutors say he continued to search the game room for the fugitive and then on his way out, hit another man twice in the face and kicked his chest. He then kicked the first man off his chair and hurled a metal stool at the man’s head.

Morre was a 10-year Honolulu police veteran.
