North Hawaii’s Blue Zone Project kicks off Saturday in Waimea with live music, activities and presentations.

At 3 p.m., the fun gets underway when Honokaa High School Jazz Band takes the stage at Kahilu Theatre. At 5:15 p.m., the Waikoloa Ukulele Group will perform at Kahilu Town Hall followed by Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko Kohala/Waimea at 5:45 p.m.

At 4 p.m., New York Times best-selling author Dan Buettner will unvei9l the secrets to a happier, healthier North Hawaii based on his National Geographic expedition studying the longest-living people in the world during the event’s keynote presentation. Attendees will also receive a copy of Buettner’s best-selling book, “The Blue Zones Solution,” as well as the opportunity to have it signed following his presentation.

In addition to the presentation and entertainment, the event will feature healthy cooking demos and food samples as well as a Keiki Zone with a rock climbing wall, bounce house and bike rodeo.

The first 500 guests will receive a free reusable grocery bag. Free shirts will also be provided.
