Jan Nel
Jan (Jannie) Andries Rabe Nel, 47, died Oct. 5, 2015, at Firth, Idaho. Born Feb. 4, 1968, in Ntumeni, Zululand, South Africa, he was a graphic artist, carver, artisan and an independent owner and operator of a towing business and auto transport business.
Services were held Oct. 9 at the Firth Ward Chapel in Shelley, Idaho. Burial was in the Firth Cemetery.
He is survived by mother, Johanna Nel; siblings, Bernadine (Gary) Cook, Belinda (J. Danny) Govatos; children, Steffan (Kasee Lynn) Nel, Jared (Katie) Rabe Nel, Jentrie Nel, Lauren Mckell Ne, Brayden Rabe Jr.
Antone Vincent
Antone “Tony” Paul Vincent, 89, of Hilo died Sept. 28, 2015, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Oct. 30, 1925, in Hilo, he was a retired laborer for Pacific Machinery, World War II Army veteran and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 at Dodo Mortuary, Hilo, for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by sons, Wendell (Isabel) Vincent, Mark (Danette) Vincent; daughters, Lynette Vincent, Patricia Vincent; sister, Margaret Branco; brothers, William (Rammie) Vicente, Albert Vicente; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley Ellis
Shirley Ann Jardine Ellis, 66, of Kailua-Kona and formerly of Wailuku, Maui, died Oct. 6, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired housekeeper for the former Renaissance Hotel in Kihei, Maui.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 15 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at Iao Valley State Park on Maui. Family requests casual attire be worn.
She is survived by husband, Louis Ellis of Nanakuli, Oahu; companion, Albert Pihi of Kailua-Kona; sons, James (Yolanda) Jardine of Las Vegas, Robert (Tracie) Jardine of Bend, Ore., Keoni (Cassie) Ellis of Wailuku, Maui, Wayne (Jeremy) Ellis of Sandy, Utah; brother, Lawrence (Renee) Jardine of Hilo; sisters, Yvonne (George) Perry of Honolulu, Deborah (Clarence) Aveiro of Midvalle, Utah; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Lorrin Ching
Lorrin K.C. Ching, 70, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 3, 2015, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1944, in Honolulu, he was a manager at Villas at Keauhou Estates and member of the Keauhou Canoe Club.
A celebration of life will be held at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 17 at Keauhou Bay in Keauhou. Family requests casual attire. Loose flowers are welcome.
He is survived by son, Aron (Allison) Ching of California; daughters, Alexis Ching and Cassidy Ching, both of Kailua-Kona, Jessica Ching of Honolulu; hanai son, Peter (Shari Lee) Vangerpoel of Maui; mother, Violet Ing of Honolulu; brother, Donovan Ching of California; sister, Dvonia Ching of California; 10 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kathleen “Kathy” Tolentino, 64, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 17, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 8, 1951, in Joliet, Ill., she worked for DH Realty and was a homemaker.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for a 10:30 a.m. service. Luncheon follows. Family requests no flowers.
She is survived by husband, Vince Tolentino of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Caroline Tolentino of Honolulu, Jennifer Tolentino of Kailua-Kona; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia Akiona
Sylvia Theresa Swain Akiona, 81, of Hilo died Aug. 30, 2015, in Hilo. Born Oct. 15, 1933, in Hilo, she was a retired clerk typist for the Hawaii County Parks and Recreation Division, Panaewa Zoo, former head housekeeper at the Orchid Isle Hotel, founding member and coach of the Waiakea Nakoa Girls Fast-pitch Softball Teams and the Waiakea Waena Elementary Girls Fast-pitch Softball Teams, member of Leialoha Women’s Fast-pitch Softball Team.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Nov. 7 at Reeds Bay Park, Hilo, for an 11 a.m. service. Fellowship follows. Lei welcome. Donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of Hilo, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, HI 96720.

Don Raye
Don Raye, “Uncle Dan the Car Guy,” 69, of Waikokoa died Sept. 25, 2015. Born March 1, 1949, in Louisville, Ky., he was a musician, artist, car enthusiast and a published author.

Dr. Leslie Yamanaka
Dr. Leslie Yoshio Yamanaka, 97, of Keauhou Mauka, died Oct. 3, 2015, at his residence. Born Nov. 23, 1917, in Puuhue, he was a self-employed dentist and owner of his dental office, L.Y. Yamanaka, D.D.S., and member of the Kona Rotary Club and Kamalumalu Kumiai.

He is survived by sons, Kerwin (Theresa) Yamanaka of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jon Yamanaka of Keauhou Mauka; daughter, Charlene (Ray) Takeguchi of Chatsworth, Calif.; sister, Elverta (Daniel) Yoshida of Kealakekua; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald “Don” Frank Schaudenecker, 71, of Kailua-Kona and Phoenix died Oct. 4, 2015, at his Kailua-Kona residence. Born Sept. 4, 1944, in Springfield, Mass., he was a retired electrician, dive instructor, fisherman and outdoorsman.

He is survived by daughter, Hilary (Ryan) Nelson of Arizona.

Wallace Hamada
Wallace Masaichi Hamada, 92, of Keaau died Aug. 29, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kapaa, Kauai, he was an employee with the former Hilo Motors.

He is survived by wife, Nobue Hamada of Keaau; son, Larry (Jenny) Hamada of Keaau; daughters, Gail (George) Rapoza and Nellie Hamada, both of Keaau; brother, Henry (Marion) Hamada of Kauai; sisters, Ruth Kihara of Kauai, Nellie Nishihira of Houston; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou Beardsley
Mary Lou Beardsley, 82, of Pahoa died Sept. 29, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 16, 1933, in Kashong, N.Y., she was an Avon representative, former president of the Nanawale Community Association and a volunteer with many youth organizations.
