A stabbing in Pohoiki Wednesday sent one man to the hospital and the other into jail.

After an 8:15 p.m. call, Puna officers learned a 24-year-old man was stabbed multiple times.

According to police, Boris Yarmolyk, 61, of Pahoa, stabbed the other man after a verbal argument outside a home on the 13-0800 block of Pohoiki Road and the confrontation turned physical.

Another resident intervened, which caused minor injuries to Yarmolyk’s head.

The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was listed as serious, but stable condition.

Yarmolyk was treated at the scene by fire department paramedics before he was taken to the cellblock.

He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.
