HONOLULU — Honolulu city officials say they will clear the core section of the Kakaako homeless camp next week.
The city said in a news release Friday workers would clear belongings from Olomehani, Ahui and Illao streets on Thursday. They plan to clear Ohe Street on Friday.
Olomehani and Ohe streets are next to the Children’s Discovery Center. They are at the center of a large homeless camp that has grown in the Kakaako area.
There were nearly 300 people living on Kakaako sidewalks in August, but some have been helped into shelters.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell began clearing the camp in early September after letting people live there for about nine months.
A survey released by the governor’s office in August showed more than 40 percent of Kakaako’s homeless are families.
