A man is in jail after allegedly brandishing a gun during a verbal altercation Sunday night in downtown Hilo, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Police went to a report of a possible affray at the soccer fields off Kamehameha Avenue. Officers were told that during the altercation a man exited a nearby SUV and brandished a firearm. He then returned to the SUV and drove away.
The SUV was located at Keawe and Mamo streets, where Joseph C. Fernandez, 26, of Volcano, was arrested on a charge of terroristic threatening, according to police.
On Monday he was charged with possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway and possessing an unregistered firearms.
His bail was set at $5,500.
The investigation continues into possible terroristic threatening charges.
