Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12112 is located behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street. The following events will be conducted this week:
Wednesday free coffee will be served starting at 9 a.m. Veterans are invited to meet for camaraderie with others who have served honorably.
“Thursday Night Football” will on the TVs at 3 p.m. with light pupu provided.
The $5 Friday dinner features onion burgers with salad and dessert served from 5 to 7 p.m.
VFW meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. This month’s speaker will be Holy Raymer, executive director of Life Care Center of Kona. She will talk about programs and services offered to the community for both inpatient and outpatient care.
Sunday, the doors open for football at 10 a.m. Bring pupu to share.

Harrison teaching meditation Sunday
”Awakening to the Deepest Truth of Who We Are: a Gathering With Gavin Harrison” meets from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Waimea Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka St., Waimea.
Sitting and walking meditation and talks are included in this nondenominational event. Experienced and beginning meditators are welcome. Bring a meditation cushion. Chairs are available. Donations are accepted.

Sugata honored as officer of month
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee will honor Officer Kaea Sugata as its officer of the month at noon Oct. 7 for his outstanding performance as a member of the Hawaii Police Department. The guest speaker will be Bud Luth, program development coordinator, The Friendly Place.
The committee encourages and supports the police department in its efforts to prevent crime, deter potential criminals and enforce laws. The committee also provides needed police equipment for use by Kona District officers when department funds cannot support those needs.
The public is invited to attend the luncheon. The cost is $20, all inclusive at Huggo’s Restaurant.

Business startup workshop planned
