The diver who disappeared in North Kohala is now considered a missing person, based on a press release from the Hawaii Police Department.
Jamie Salis, 55, Hawi, was last seen Sept. 17 diving in the ocean at night off Old Coast Guard Road. He was reported missing by friends who had been speardiving with him.
The Coast Guard and Hawaii Fire Department mounted a five-day search for him. The only evidence reportedly found was a dive light and spear. Both agencies called off their searches on Saturday.
He is described as 5-foot-7, 165 pounds with brown eyes and shoulder-length balding black hair.
Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
