Horseshoe club to start fourth league play of 2015
The Kona Horseshoe Pitcher’s Club will begin its fourth league play of 2015 on Sept. 24 at the Kona Palms Courts horseshoe pits behind the tennis courts at Old Kona Airport Park.
Membership is required for this approximately eight to ten week sanctioned doubles league. New or returning players will be paired whenever possible. Handicap scoring is used enabling players of all levels to participate. League play is from 4-6 p.m. Thursdays with a weekly fee of $5.
The Kona Horseshoe Pitcher’s Club offers free, informal play from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays at Kona Palms Courts. Also, come down to the horseshoe pits on Thursday evenings (4-6 p.m.) to meet some of the players. Pitchers of all levels are welcome.

Wildcat Golf Challenge
The Club at Hokulia will host the Wildcat Golf Challenge on Nov. 16.
The two best ball of four format with a shotgun start costs $250 per golfer to enter. Entry fee includes a cart and a gift for all golfers.
The event will benefit the interscholastic athletics program at Konawaena High School. Space is limited and advance reservations can be made by calling the Athletic Office at Konawaena at 323-4500.

She talks about the early days of endurance runs Alan participated in on the Big Island, like the 24 hour run in 1990’s at Old Kona Airport park.
Chick Kunitake, reflects on the Daniel Sayre Foundation efforts to raise funds for purchase of Hawaii Country Fire Department rescue equipment. He looks back at his experience as a Konawaena athlete in 1950’s. He shares why he encourages supporting high school athlete fund raising efforts like the Konawaena Wildcats girls basketball team.
The Wildcats girls basketball team, under coach Bobbie Awa, are fundraising to attend the prestigious Title IX Basketball Tournament in Washington D.C. in December The Wildcats are one of the 48 teams invited from around the country.

KJCA golf tournament
The Kona Japanese Civic Association will hold a golf tournament on Oct. 4 at Big Island Country Club.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $100 and includes a continental breakfast, pupu, lunch and prizes.
The format will be a two-person scramble. Team handicap will be determined by using 80 percent of the total team handicap.
Hole sponsors are welcome to help KJCA promote Japanese culture in the community.

Keaau High looking for wrestling and judo head coaches
Keaau High School is currently accepting applications for wrestling and judo head coach positions for both boys and girls. All interested applicants can pickup an application at the main office during regular working hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Deadline to submit an application is Oct. 2.
