Daughters, Cousins meeting Thursday

Kumu hula Micah Kamohoalii of Halau Na Kipuupuu of Waimea will be the featured speaker at the Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousins meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hulihee Palace. His halau recently completed a state tour, presenting the acclaimed “Hanau Ke Alii,” or “Born is the Chief,” a four-act original hula drama telling the story of Kamehameha 1. Kamohoalii’s topic is titled “Ka Moomeheu Lawaia O Na Kona,” or the “Fishing Culture of Kona.” He will discuss the fishing traditions from the different regions of Kona, chants and practices that honor the people of the Kona shores.

Refreshments will follow the presentation and the community is invited to attend.

Estate planning workshop slated

Warren Chong, an independent associate with LegalShield, presents a basic estate planning workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Suite Possibilities, Suite 102, in the Chamber of Commerce Building in Kailua-Kona.

Information and a “will questionnaire” will be provided to help participants complete this important document.

Forum to focus on energy decisions

The West Hawaii Forum at 6 p.m. Thursday at the County Council Chambers, West Hawaii Civic Center, will focus on how the energy decisions now being made will affect the future of clean energy jobs, livability and the health of our communities in Hawaii.

Speakers include state Rep. Nicole Lowen, vice Chairwoman of the Energy and Environmental Protection Committee; Vincent Paul Ponthieux, Blue Planet Research, CTO; Robert Harris, SunRun director of public policy; Ryan Hanley, Solar City senior director of engineering; Will Rolston, Hawaii County energy coordinator; and Tom Travis, resident energy expert and Public Utilities Commission intervener.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. This program is free to the public. Pupu and beverages are provided.

New massage school to host meetings

Island Spirit School of Massage will host free informational meetings to introduce its college-level curriculum that starts Oct. 12.

The meetings will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 26 and October 2 and 5.

The program is licensed by the Department of Education, accepted by American Massage Therapy Association and meeting national certification standards of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. The school is in the same location as Hawaiian Island School of Massage and uses many of the teachers from that program.

Kailua-Kona Seniors to learn about changes to Medicare

Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai for a member’s special event day. A representative from the Office of Aging will speak about changes to Medicare.

Members may also continue working on the gift bag craft.
