New, narrative films are being accepted for the 11th annual Big Island Film Festival slated May 26 to 30, 2016, on the South Kohala coast.
The festival offers the film community in Hawaii and beyond an easygoing island environment for networking, movie-watching under the stars, food and music happenings and more. The festival will also host an original screenplay contest, with entries juried by a panel of industry professionals.
Narrative short films (30 minutes or less) and feature length (60 minutes or more) completed after Jan. 1, 2015, will be considered. Three deadlines have been established with earlier entries paying lower entry fees:
• Early bird: Entries due by Nov, 1. Entry fees are $50 per feature, $40 per short, and $30 per student.
• Regular: Entries due by Jan. 1, 2016. Entry fees are $60 per feature, $50 per short, and $35 per student.
• Late/final: Entries due by Feb. 1, 2016. Entry fees are $70 per feature, $60 per short, and $40 per student.
All films shot in Hawaii or created by filmmakers who live in Hawaii receive a 25-percent discount on entry fees (verification required), with direct submission. The discount also applies to BIFF alumni worldwide. BIFF uses www.FilmFreeway.com for its film submissions and screenplay contest entries. “Golden Honu Awards” will be presented to the best feature and best short in Family, Student, Animated, Foreign, Hawaii and Audience Choice categories at a special awards brunch to honor the filmmakers on May 26, 2016.
The Big Island Film Festival is a celebration of narrative filmmaking, with free family films under the stars, international features and shorts, stellar social events, celebrity receptions, screenwriting workshops, film awards and more.
