Kealakehe Intermediate School hosts open house

Kealakehe Intermediate School will host an open house Tuesday.

A meet and greet with a full dinner will be held from 5:15 to 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Parents will meet their student’s core teachers from 6 to 6:30 and will tour their classrooms from 6:30 to 7.

Free yoga class offered to veterans

Big Island Yoga Center, a Hawaii nonprofit corporation, is offering a free class to veterans in September.

First-time students should arrive 15 minutes prior to class to fill out the new student registration form, or download the form online and bring it to class.

HPA community book club meeting set

The Hawaii Preparatory Academy Community Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Dyer Memorial Library, upper campus.

Community Book Club meetings are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and participants are invited to bring a snack to share.

Lois Inman, Dyer Memorial librarian and Jaime Johnson, upper school English teacher, will lead the group. The book selection is “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr. The book has received numerous awards, including the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for fiction and the 2015 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.

Kiwanis West Hawaii meets Wednesday

Kiwanis West Hawaii meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Quinn’s Almost By the Sea on Palani Road in Kailua-Kona. Visiting Kiwanis and prospective members are invited.

Kiwanis looks to serve the community by conducting service projects that respond to identified needs, especially related to children.

Kailua-Kona Seniors plan business meeting

Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai for the quarterly business meeting. Members will also celebrate September birthdays. Those members interested in the “gift bag” craft are reminded to bring supplies.
