Yoshito Nagamine
Yoshito Nagamine, 84, of Papaikou died Aug. 6, 2015, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born April 28, 1931, in Pepeekeo, he was retired from A&A Machine Works, a Korean War Army veteran and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
He is survived by wife, Hiroko Nagamine of Papaikou; son, Paul (Bessie Shimizu) Nagamine of Hilo; daughters, Susan (Charles) Ley of Las Vegas, Lynn (Craig) Nakaishi, Laura (Max) Pajo, both of Hilo; brothers, Shigeru Nagamine, Yusei (Tsuruko) Nagamine, both of Honolulu; sister, Yoshino Hanashiro of Honomu; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Julio Akapito
Julio Muritok Akapito, 70, of Keaau died Aug. 13, 2015, at home. Born in Chuuk, Micronesia, he was a deacon for Pahoa Sacred Hearts Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. Aug. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for an 11 a.m. Mass.
He is survived by wife, Kantita Akapito of Keaau; sons, Marius (Sanrine) Akapito and Bartholomew Akapito, both of Chuuk, Marcellus (Vida) Akapito of Pohnpei, Silvanus (Darmy) Akapito and Nicholas (Q-Me) Akapito, both of Oahu, Jonathan Akapito, Eliakim Akapito and Frantisek Akapito, all of Hilo; daughters, Sylvia (Narcisso) Sebastian of Chuuk, Gracelyn Akapito and Rachel Akapito, both of Guam, Maria (Tifer) Refit of Hilo; brothers, Ireneus Akapito, John Akapito, Elias Tipeno, Eliseus Akapito; sisters, Vita Skilling, Rita Mori, Micaela Rudolph, Anna Maria Yomai, Margarita Akineo; 21 grandchildren.

Joseph Kanakamaikai Jr.
Joseph Kanakamaikai Jr., 73, of Ocean View died July 30, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired tour driver with Jack’s Tours, Robert’s Tours and the former Grayline Tours and also worked for Kiyosaki Trucking and was a member of Ka’u Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Hilo Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for an 11 a.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Alae Cemetery. The family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy Leimona Kanakamaikai of Hilo; son, Kim Kanakamaikai of Hilo; daughters, Robin Makuakane-Hall of Kurtistown, Kuuipo Kanakamaikai of Mountain View, Holly Kanakamaikai of Waimea, Serenia (Casey) Santana,Tiana Pacheco-Kamalii, Cheyenne Pacheco-Kamalii, Lovey Shannon Pacheco-Kamalii, all of Ocean View; brother, Melvin Kanakamaikai of Kona; hanai sister, Shirley Golden of Kurtistown; 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, one aunt; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Esperanza Sebastian
Esperanza “Espie” Valdez Sebastian, 81, of Pahala died July 25, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 27, 1933, in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she retired from Mauna Loa Macadamia Orchard and she was a member of the Pahala Community Filipino Association.
Friends may call at 3 p.m. Aug. 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome. Cremation will follow at Dodo Mortuary.
She is survived by husband, Ricarte Sebastian of Pahala; daughter, Letty-Julie (Edwin) Mitsunaga of Pahala; son, Pablo (Ely) Sebastian of Pahala; brother, Elpidio (Patricia) Valdez of Philippines; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

David Meyer
David Francis Meyer, 97, formerly of Laupahoehoe died Aug. 13, 2015, at Pohai Malama Hospice of Hilo. Born in Waipunalei, he was a retired truck driver for the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation and member of 1st Regiment, Hawaii Rifles.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. Sept. 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at 11a.m. at Homelani Memorial Park and Cemetery, Ilima section. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Lucy (Ynigues) Meyer of Hilo; son, Lionel (Carol) Meyer of Hilo; daughters, Elvira (Meyer) Publico of Hilo, Karen (Darrell Howard) Meyer of Pepeekeo; brother, Herman (Hideko) Meyer of Wahiawa, Oahu; sisters, Agnes Carvalho of Hilo, Dorothy Lanza, Annie Lum and Mary Ann Meyer, all of Honolulu; one aunt; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three hanai grandsons; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Billiamosa Sasaki, 91, of Honolulu died Aug. 2, 2015, in Honolulu. Born Dec. 10, 1923, in Hawaii, she was a retired bindery clerk for the Navy.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 1 at Mililani Mauka on Oahu.
She is survived by husband, Henry Sasaki; daughters, Geri Stephens, Denise (Dennis) Torres; son, Sanford Sasaki; sisters, Eleanor Toledo, Shirley (William) Ligsay; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Julie Foster
Julie Carolyn Foster, 74, of Kapoho died Aug. 11, 2015, at home. Born in Alabama, she was a special education teacher for California public schools.

Louise “Maud” Maudy Chevallier, 88, of Hilo died Aug. 14, 2015, at a care home in Mountain View. Born Oct. 31, 1926, in Burkerto, Indonesia, she was a retired manager for Hartford in Los Angeles and member of the Hilo Berean Bible Church, Hilo Orchid Society, Big Island Stroke Club, Hilo Grandmothers No. 652, Seniors of Paradise – Puna and AARP Chapter 655.
No services are scheduled.
She is survived by nephews, Brian (Stella) Wardenaar of Hilo, Gamar Batinggi of Jakarta, Indonesia; cousins, April Priscilla of Jakarta, Indonesia, Febie Babyrose of Jakarta, Indonesia; family members in Holland and the mainland.

Deborah “Debi” Louise Carse, 59, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 16, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 22, 1955, in Fort. Smith, Ark., she was a former cook.
