HONOLULU (AP) — A man is pleading no contest to murder just as his trial was about to begin in a case involving a body found dismembered in Mililani.
The Honolulu prosecutor’s office says Bryan Suitt pleaded no contest to second-degree murder on Monday, a day before jury selection was scheduled to begin.
A grand jury indictment charged Suitt with killing Alex Gonzales, whose remains were found along Mililani Memorial Park Road in September 2013.
Prosecutors say Gonzales was stabbed 55 times.
The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Suitt at his mother’s home in Coronado, California.
Suitt is expected to be sentenced to life in prison with possibility for parole. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
