State Sheriffs on Tuesday captured a 28-year-old extended furlough inmate who failed to report for a scheduled check-in last month.
Donald Soares was arrested at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday in Puna, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
Soares failed to report to a Kona extended furlough house for his scheduled check-in on the evening of July 30. He was serving time for burglary, theft and forgery.
Second-degree escape is expected to be added to his charges. His next parole hearing was scheduled for November.
Inmates in the extended furlough program live and work outside of the facility but must check in at various times throughout the month.
