Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman’s body found in Hilo

An Illinois man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a body found in Hilo early Friday.

An Illinois man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a body found in Hilo early Friday.

At 12:57 a.m., South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a business off Kamehameha Avenue for a report of an unresponsive woman with injuries, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Responding officers found a deceased woman with obvious signs of foul play. Upon further investigation, which included reviewing video footage from the area, police developed a suspect.

At 11 a.m., 35-year-old Curtis Hodges of Shiloh, Illinois, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder at a hostel located off Waianuenue Avenue in Hilo.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.

The identity of the victim is still pending fingerprint analysis.
