Kahilu Theatre will host a free Family Fun Day to celebrate the launch of the its 2015-16 presenting season on Saturday in Waimea.

The free event offers up family fun and entertainment inside and surrounding the theater to include live music, face painting, balloon sculptures, two stage shows, as well as dance, theatre, and juggling classes. New information about Kahilu Theatre’s 35th season of shows and events will also be released during the event.

In addition, the theater will also be giving away free shave ice to the first 50 attendees. The Family Fun Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At 10 a.m., Moco the Clown and Red Robyn will be featured in the lobby, offering balloon magic and face painting for both keiki and adults.

Juggling lessons, for kids all ages, will be offered by Cirque‘Ohana, a new afterschool program at Kahilu Theatre offering juggling, unicycling, as well as aerial classes.

Free dance workshops will be led by teachers from Prince Dance Institute, whose fall program commences on Sept. 9 at Kahilu Theatre. The workshops will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. and 12 to 1 p.m. and will include hip-hop, hula, beginning ballet, and contemporary dance. Online registration for the 12 different classes offered by Prince Dance Institute and Cirque Ohana will open Aug. 10. Space is limited.

Life in Pursuit, a three-piece group from Hamakua, will play sets on stage at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Brothers Chase and Carl Kauhane, with longtime friend Ryan Higgins, formed Life in Pursuit to play laid-back, rhythm-based acoustic rock with tinges of hip-hop, reggae, blues and pop. Their music is mostly originals, with lyrics ranging from complex and deep-thinking, to simple and playful.

Two family shows will be presented on the main stage at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Performers will include Moco the Clown, Kumsa, Isla and members of Cirque Ohana, plus students and staff from Keiki Performing Arts Workshop, also known as KPAW. KPAW is a two-week summer camp organized by the Kahilu Theatre Youth Troupe, and the staff and children will perform songs from musical theater favorites.

Saturday’s Family Fun Day is the first of four such events planned during Kahilu Theatre’s 2015-16 Season. The next Family Fun Day is slated Nov. 21 and will celebrate the Waimea Ukulele and Slack Key Guitar Institute and Festival.
