Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site re-opened to the public Thursday morning, including its visitor center, trails, and parking area. The Kawaihae park had been closed since Sunday due to a fast-moving brushfire in Kawaihae that burned more than 3,000 acres. The fire wiped out vegetation but did not damage historical structures.

The 80-acre site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The 43rd annual Hookuikahi Establishment Day Hawaiian Cultural Festival, scheduled for this weekend, has been canceled due to heavy rain and wind forecast with the arrival of Tropical Storm Hilda, now a tropical depression.
