American Legion meets Wednesday

The American Legion Kona Post 20 meets at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars facility on Kaiwi Street adjacent to Kona Locksmith. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. for a cost of $10.

Members are reminded that annual membership dues are due on Aug. 20.

On Saturday at 6 a.m. is an Adopt-A-Highway program assembling at Pualani Estates entrance near mile marker 120.

VFW Post 12113 lists activities

VFW Post 12112 is located behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street and is hosting the following activities.

A $5 spaghetti dinner with salad, garlic bread and dessert will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

The VFW Auxiliary meets at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

An authentic Saturday southern dinner for $20 consisting of catfish flown in from Georgia, hush puppies, cole slaw and sweet potato pie will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is welcome with reservations required and prepayment is appreciated

Woodturners meeting Saturday

West Hawaii Woodturners meets from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Glass Tempering Factory at the top of the Matsuyama industrial area. Bring a lunch and a chair. Visitors are welcome.

Elks honoring older members

The Kona Elks will honor “Old Timers” with 15 or more years as Elks beginning at noon Sunday with special acknowledgement to the Elk with the most years as an Elk, for both male and female. The menu features the “Build Your Own Burger” with many different toppings beginning at 1 p.m. for $10 for “Old Timers” and $12 for everyone else. DJ dancing with Kona Ballroom Dance Club will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. All Elks and friends are encouraged to come and support the “Old Timers.”
