The fire that threatened Kawaihae remains in a similar situation as Sunday evening, firefighters said Monday.

The situation largely remains the same, firefighters said, with the blaze moving along an inaccessible area near Kohala Mountain Road. Crews will remain at the scene dousing hotspots and flare-ups throughout the day.

The fire has been slowed by ravines in the area, along with water drops from helicopters. A private group has made their equipment available, as well.

There have been some flareups near the Mauna Kea Beach Resort area and Kawaihae Village, but all have been controlled, firefighters said.

All roads are open and there are no active evacuation orders.
