group meeting
The National Federation of the Blind, West Hawaii Chapter and Hoopono will host a presentation on cane navigation at 11 a.m. Friday at Hale Halawai.
There will also be a demonstration of Zoom Text and the Zoom Text keyboard for those interested in learning about tools that offer assistance in using a computer as vision fails. A short discussion will be held on eye health, based on the responses to last month’s questionnaire.
Anyone interested in learning how to continue an active and independent life with vision loss is welcome.

Hospital auxiliary hosts free luncheon
The Auxiliary of the Kona Community Hospital will host a complimentary luncheon for all interested individuals at its summer membership meeting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the hospital. Attendees may meet the board of directors, hear a guest speaker and find out more about the group’s special projects.

Mai Tai Festival
is Saturday
The seventh annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Royal Kona Resort. Admission is free.
The day begins with the Battle of the BBQ competition among area restaurants and chefs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Taster plates will be available for purchase and visitors may vote for the People’s Choice Award for their barbecue favorite.
Vendors and artisans will display their products and sell food during the Mai Tai Marketplace starting at 11 a.m.
Grammy- nominated musician Henry Kapono and his band take center stage at the Royal Kona Resort pool at 2:30 p.m. for a free concert.
The main event starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Bar. The Mai Tai Mix-off attracts more 20 bartenders and mai tai aficionados from many parts of the globe, all vying for the title as the creator of the “World’s Best Mai Tai.”
