Hawaii Island police are investigating a robbery that occurred Thursday in the area of Keawe Street, just south of Mamo Street in Hilo.

Hawaii Island police are investigating a robbery that occurred Thursday in the area of Keawe Street, just south of Mamo Street in Hilo.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., a 33-year-old man reported that two men approached him from behind and began to punch him. The suspects reportedly stole the victim’s wallet and cell phone and attempted to take his backpack. The attackers then fled the area, according to information from the Hawaii Police Department.

The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center and then flown to a hospital on Oahu for treatment of serious facial injuries.

The attackers are described as two men with dark complexions, one about 5-foot-6 inches and the other about 6 feet tall. Both were described as having a stocky build.
