HONOLULU — A wildfire in a remote area of Oahu has burned about 300 acres, or less than half a square mile, as four different agencies battle the blaze.
The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said in a statement Monday that the fire started in the Ewa Forest Reserve-Poamoho Section over the weekend.
About 50 firefighters from the state Division of Forestry and Wildlife, U.S. Army Fire Department, Federal Fire Department, and the Honolulu Fire Department are all involved in firefighting efforts. Officials are using helicopters and ground resources to battle the blaze.
Two neighborhoods were briefly threatened by the fire over the weekend but no structures have been burned and no injuries have been reported.
The state says the terrain is very steep and difficult to access, and high winds have fueled the flames.
