HONOLULU (AP) — Police have arrested a juvenile on suspicion of misdemeanor assault in a case involving a Hawaii lawmaker who was attacked in a homeless encampment.
Honolulu police spokeswoman Michelle Yu said Friday the suspect is a minor whose name won’t be released.
The incident occurred on June 29 while Democratic Rep. Tom Brower was taking photos in the Honolulu encampment where hundreds of homeless people are living.
Brower says he was attacked by one person who knocked him to the ground. He says he got up covered in blood and was chased by a group of 10 people.
Some camp residents say the attackers were upset that Brower was taking photos of their homes.
Brower says he will help people who acknowledge a role in the attack.
