Record-breaking temperatures mean trouble for Hawaii farmers

HONOLULU (AP) — The National Weather Service is forecasting high temperatures to stay all the way into fall, a prediction that promises problems for Hawaii farmers.

KITV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1DUWqZO ) that some farmers are seeing crops die because of the record-setting temperatures.

Dean Okimoto says the heatwave is causing problems for him as well as his peers. He says lettuce growers are especially troubled.

The dying crops aren’t just leaving the Farmers Market empty, they’re costing farmers money.

Weather forecasters say the high temperatures this summer are tied to the ocean around us being warmer than usual.
