WAILUKU (AP) — About 5,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed along the North Honoapiilani Highway due to a pumping station error.

Hawaii News Now reports (https://bit.ly/1U5XF1E ) that the overflow at Lahaina Pump Station No. 2 Tuesday occurred when a control wire failed at the station. For about 15 minutes, wastewater flowed from a sewer manhole into a storm drain and was discharged into the Kaanapali Golf Court pond.

Officials say the area has been cleaned and disinfected and that warning signs have been posted. Bacteriological tests are underway to determine if the spill reached the ocean.
