Seven police officers have been promoted from the rank of officer to that of sergeant or detective.

Seven police officers have been promoted from the rank of officer to that of sergeant or detective.

The longest serving officer being promoted is Sgt. John T. Talich, with 20 years in the department, where he is assigned to the Puna District. He will shift to the North Kohala District.

Detective Kayne K.M. Kelii, has been with the department 16 years and will move from the North Hilo District to the Area II Criminal Investigations Division in Kona.

Detective Jeremy S.M. Lewis, will take his 12 years of experience with him in his transfer out of the Area II Vice Section and into the Area II Criminal Investigations Section in Kona.

Sgt. Charrise K. Wakita, a 12-year veteran of the police department, will be assigned to the Puna District. She is part of the Traffic Enforcement Unit in East Hawaii.

Three 10-year veterans are being promoted to Area II responsibilities as detectives.

Detective Carrie K. Akina will be assigned to the Criminal Investigations Section. She is currently assigned to Kona Patrol.

Detective Jerome A. Manuel will be assigned to the Juvenile Aid Section, where he is as an officer.

Detective David T. Matsushima will join the Criminal Investigations Section. His current assignment is at Kona Patrol.

The promotions take effect Aug. 1.
