Applications sought for Safe Routes to School projects
The Hawaii Department of Transportation is seeking applications to plan, develop, implement and evaluate eligible Safe Routes to School infrastructure and noninfrastructure projects.
Eligible recipients of funds to be used for Safe Routes to School projects are limited to state, local and regional government agencies, including schools, school districts and nonprofit organizations. Applications will be accepted only from these entities. Recipients of the federal funds will be responsible for all aspects of project implementation.
Eligible projects and activities shall directly support increased safety and convenience for students in grades kindergarten through eighth grades to walk or bicycle to and from school. In addition, all projects that use Safe Routes to School federal funds shall comply with applicable federal, state and local provisions.
Applications must be received 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at Department of Transportation, Highways Division, Traffic Branch, 601 Kamokila Blvd., Room 602, Kapolei, HI 96707, attention: Tara Lucas.
