Car show planned Saturday at Lanihau Center
Owners of Big Island hot rods, classics and sports cars will cruise into Lanihau Center in Kailua-Kona Saturday to show off their vehicles and support the shopping center’s annual drive for school supplies.
The 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. car show will feature dozens of restored and custom cars and trucks under the shade trees at the Lanihau Center parking lot near Henry Street across from Buns in the Sun.
Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring school supplies such as backpacks, tablets and pencils. Monetary donations will also be accepted at the Lanihau Center tent at the show.
Music from B93 radio station’s G. Cruz will keep the event energized and prizes from Lanihau merchants and others will be given out during the event from lucky ticket drawings.
Area car clubs, including Kona’s Paradise Cruisers and VW club will be joined by members of Hilo’s Hawaii Classic Cruisers and others from around the island.
Hawaii Racing Association will have an information tent with updates on the nonprofit organization’s efforts to create a motorsports complex in North Kona. More information is available at lanihau.com.
Christmas in July craft fair planned
The 23rd annual Joann Williams Christmas in July Art, Gift, Jewelry and Craft Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in the Kamakahonu Ballroom and parking lot.
The event features vendors from throughout the state with a variety of products including jams, quilts, Hawaiian clothes, lotions, ornaments, artwork, household items and food.
Admission is free and door prizes from each vendor will be given away throughout the day. A silent auction will benefit a nonprofit. The fair is designed to promote island artists and several nonprofits.

Class helps children boost their confidence
“New school, new confidence” is the title of a class that is offered by Pua Acacio, marriage and family therapist and Sabine Lindemann, yoga calm youth instructor. In this class, children will learn relaxation strategies to help calm the body and mind, such as breathing techniques, positive thinking and imagination. Activities also include yoga-based movement and games to promote social-emotional learning.
The class is open to students age 11 through 14 and focuses especially on children transitioning to middle school or high school. The class will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at at Jack’s Diving Locker in Coconut Grove Marketplace, Kailua-Kona. Cost is $15 per child.

Foreclosure mediation class planned in Hilo
Kuikahi Mediation Center foreclosure dispute resolution specialist Brian Nussbaum will discuss the topic “Foreclosure Mediation: Helping Borrowers and Lenders Work it Out” during a free brown bag lunch meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at HomeStreet Bank, 111 Aupuni St., Hilo.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.
