Konawaena standout and Hawaii’s top girls basketball recruit Chanelle Molina has decided to suit up for the Washington State Cougars of the Pac-12.
Molina, who will be entering her senior year this fall, has been highly recruited, receiving offers from over two-dozen Division I programs across the country. Molina had narrowed her choices down to WSU, Oregon State, Arizona State and Oregon — all Pac-12 schools — before giving her verbal commitment on Thursday.
The early signing period for basketball begins Nov. 11.
As a junior, Molina led the Wildcats to a 33-1 record and the Division I state title. Molina averaged 17.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 3.1 steals per game while shooting 57.9 percent from inside the arc. Molina is the three-time BIIF Player of the Year and two-time Gatorade Hawaii Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Molina has maintained a 3.57 GPA in the classroom. She has volunteered locally on behalf of the Women’s Basketball Coaching Association’s Pink Zone initiative to promote breast cancer awareness in addition to serving as part of an elementary school literacy-outreach program.
Dawnyelle Awa and Lia Galdeira, 2012 Konawaena graduates, also chose to play their college ball at Washington State. Awa is entering her senior season, while Galdeira opted to forgo her senior year and instead play professionally in Europe before turning her sights on the WNBA. Galdeira is the the second-leading scorer in WSU women’s basketball history.
Also on Thursday, Lahainaluna’s Cameron Fernandez — another top Hawaii recruit — signed on with Wazzu.
