Hurricane Delores weakened Thursday and could be downgraded to a tropical storm by Friday night, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center report.
Delores, located 260 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, was packing 105 mph winds and moving toward the west-northwest at 8 mph as of Thursday afternoon. Weakening is forecast during the next couple of days as the storm encounters colder water, increasing shear, and a drier, more stable environment. Dolores could be downgraded to a tropical storm late Friday.
Also being monitored Thursday was Tropical Depression Enrique, located 1,300 miles east of the Big Island. The storm was packing 35 mph winds and moving toward the west-northwest at 8 mph. Additional weakening is forecast and the storm is expected to be downgraded to a remnant low on Friday.
In addition, forecasters are now keeping tabs on a weak area of low pressure located 700 miles south-southwest of the Gulf of Tehuantepec that is expected to see some development early next week. Forecasters gave it a 20 percent chance of forming into a tropical cyclone within five days.
Elsewhere in the Eastern Pacific, no tropical cyclone formation is expected during the next five days.
Meanwhile in the Central North Pacific, forecasters continue to watch an area of showers and thunderstorms some 675 miles south of Hilo. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center says there is a 10 percent of the surface low becoming a tropical cyclone during the coming 48 hours.
Elsewhere in the Central North Pacific, no tropical cyclones are expected through Saturday afternoon.
The Central North Pacific and Eastern Pacific hurricane seasons continue through Nov. 30.
