Pacific Biodiesel Technologies has acquired Big Island Biodiesel.
Big Island Biodiesel became a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Biodiesel on July 1 following a unanimous vote by members of the two companies. Pacific Biodiesel announced the move Monday.
Pacific Biodiesel said the merger will unite members to further the company’s biodiesel production efforts in Hawaii, as well as to continue decreasing the state’s dependency on imported fossil fuel.
Big Island Biodiesel, which began production in July 2012, is the most recent of 13 facilities designed by Pacific Biodiesel and features fuel distillation and zero-waste processing. Located on Hawaii Island, the facility has a current production capacity of 5.5 million gallons per year.
Founded in 1995, Pacific Biodiesel Technologies has more than 70 employees statewide and has won state, national and international awards for innovations in the industry.
