Kona Stories celebrates release of discovered Harper Lee novel

A release party for Harper Lee’s novel “Go Set a Watchman” is planned for Tuesday at Kona Stories in Keauhou Shopping Center.

The book is the newly discovered and earliest known work from Lee, the bestselling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

Doors open at 10 a.m. where a limited number of first edition hardcover books will be sold. Throughout the day, the 2010 documentary movie, “Hey Boo about Harper Lee” will be shown.

Originally written in the mid-1950s, “Go Set a Watchman” was the novel Lee first submitted to her publishers before “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

“Go Set a Watchman” features many of the characters from “To Kill a Mockingbird” some 20 years later.
