Vocalist Kristian Lei, the star of Miss Saigon, King and I, Disney’s Festival of the Lion King and others, will be performing with Marius Stranger’s Island Swing Orchestra Sunday at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

Vocalist Kristian Lei, the star of Miss Saigon, King and I, Disney’s Festival of the Lion King and others, will be performing with Marius Stranger’s Island Swing Orchestra Sunday at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

The event will take attendees on a journey through the Big Band Era featuring standards from 1920 to 1980, remembering Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and more. Curtains lift at 4 p.m.

Lei, an accomplished Broadway and Christian recording artist, was born in Cebu, Philippines, and raised in Waianae, Oahu. She has played the lead of “Kim” in the Broadway musical, “Miss Saigon, in Germany, and “Ti Moune” in “Once on This Island in the Philippines.” She was also a supporting role as “Tuptim” alongside Richard Chamberlain in “The King and I” in Hawaii.

Lei was also the featured star at the Concert Finale for the Filipino Centennial in Hawaii in 2006 and the featured artist for the 2007 Freedom Festival Gala held in Provo, Utah. She is also the founder, producer and director of Honolulu Broadway Babies, an organization dedicated to bringing awareness to and helping individuals who are physically and mentally challenged.
