HONOLULU (AP) — A Matson cargo ship that was scheduled to arrive in Honolulu Wednesday is stalled 550 miles north of the islands.
Matson spokesman Jeff Hull tells the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1NV4NdQ ) that a problem in the engine room cut off power. He says engineers onboard are working to restore power.
Hull says there is an emergency generator to keep the lights on for the 21-man crew but the ship does not have enough power to get back on its own until the electrical issues is resolved.
A tug boat has been dispatched in case the ship needs to be towed back to the islands which would delay the ship five to six days.
