Water fair planned at Kaloko Honokohau
Kaloko Honokohau National Historical Park will hold a community water day Sunday in the park’s visitor center.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with a water of Kane chant followed by a mini water fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities that explain Kona’s unique waver cycle will include those that teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics, crafts, games and student water research presentation.
Merengue and Latin dance lessons offered
Lance Olive is teaching Merengue and Latin dance classes Mondays at Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea.
Registration is at 6:30 p.m. Monday and classes will continue for five more weeks. The one-hour lessons begin at 7 p.m. and are followed by a half-hour practice mixer. No partner is necessary.
Cost is $20 for members. Annual dues are $25.

Senior Zumba classes offered
The summer session of Elderly Recreation Service’s low-impact Zumba classes begin Tuesday.
These classes are geared toward participants age 55 and older and will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m through Aug. 11 excluding holidays in the West Hawaii Civic Center open air pavilion.
Elderly Recreation will also hold a Zumba toning class from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m Thursdays at West Hawaii Civic Center. This class combines the upbeat pace of a Zumba Gold class with the use of light weights. Classes begin Thursday.
Cost for either class is $10 for the 10-week session and can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class.

Business webinar addresses hurricane preparedness
Agility Recovery and the U.S. Small Business Administration will hold a free business continuity webinar, “Protect Your Business This Hurricane Season” from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Agility Recovery President Bob Boyd will present practical tips on how to make an organization more resilient and prepared when a hurricane strikes. Staff at Puukohola Heiau recognized
The John L. Cotter Award for Excellence committee has announced the winners of the 2015 award for project achievement. The award is a peer recognition honor designed to encourage and inspire participants in the service’s park archeology program by highlighting exemplary archeological activity. This year two awards will be presented for outstanding archeological projects within National Park Service parks.
The first award went to the staff working on the Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site Earthquake Stabilization Project from 2007-11. Lead Project Archeologist Adam Johnson, Laura Carter Schuster, Mary Jane Naone, Todd Croteau, Dana Lockett and Everett Wingert with University of Hawaii at Manoa were included among the multidisciplinary staff recognized for stabilization and repairing damage from the 2006 earthquake.
