HONOLULU (AP) — Rear Adm. Vincent Atkins has taken command of the Honolulu-based 14th Coast Guard District.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1Kyr9Qe ) Atkins replaced Rear Adm. Cari Thomas at a change of command ceremony at Sand Island Thursday.

Thomas served as the 14th District commander since May 2013. She is leaving to become the assistant commandant for human resources at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Thomas says it has been a privilege to serve as the commander of the 14th Coast Guard District. She says she will take the spirit of aloha with her as she continues her Coast Guard career.

Atkins most recently served at Coast Guard headquarters as the deputy of operations policy and capabilities. He oversaw the integration of all operations, capability, strategy and resource policy.
