Robert Cookman

Robert Lawrence Cookman, 62, of Waimea died May 11, 2015, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a stevedore with McCabe, Hamilton &Renny and Matson Navgation and an Army and Army National Guard veteran.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. May 30 at Nuuanu Memorial Park &Mortuary for an 11 a.m. service. Scattering of his ashes will be at 9 a.m. June 6 at Kawaihae. A celebration of life follows at 11 a.m. June 6 at Imiola Church, Hale Laiana. Family requests casual attire be worn. Lei and loose flowers are welcome.

He is survived by spouse, Alita-Ray Cookman of Waimea; father, Frances Smith of Hilo; sons, Noeau (Eri) Cookman of Waimea, Oliko (Jolyn) Cookman of Kohala, Kamahoi (Lacy) Cookman of Honokaa; brother, Taylor (Jessie) Smith of Hilo; sisters ,Laurie (Lei) Smith of Hilo, Joanna (Rob) Ululani Smith of Keaau; 12 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mildred Fujimori

Mildred Reiko Fujimori, 79, of Hilo died April 12, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Papaikou, she was a homemaker and member of the Wainaku Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. May 30 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Paukaa for a 3:30 p.m. service. Family request casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, Ray (Bonnie) Fujimori of Hilo; daughter, Pearl (Frank) Watanabe of Hilo; sisters, Joyce (William) Otsuka of Palo Alto, Calif., Irene (Gary) Masada of Larkspur, Calif.; two aunts; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard Soares

Richard “Sav’e” Isidro Soares, 73, of Kailua-Kona died May 20, 2015, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Oct. 23, 1941, in Kaunakakai, Molokai, he was a drummer with the former Molokai Makas, Brothers-in-law, and Captain Bean Cruises.

Friends may call at noon May 30 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kealakekua Ward on Kalani Street in Kailua-Kona for a 1 p.m. service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richard I. Soares Fund, 75-243 Pumehana St., Kailua-Kona, HI. 96740. The family requests casual attire be worn.

Natsue Yamanaka

Natsue Yamanaka, 85, of Hilo died May 10, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was retired from the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. and member of the Wainaku Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. May 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Cremation follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Melvin (Della) Yamanaka and Ivan Yamanaka, both of Hilo; brother, Kazuyoshi Hayashida of Honolulu; sister, Kazuno (Hayami) Ogata of Honolulu; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Tyrome Kahele

Tyrome Kalani Kahele, 18, died May 9, 2015. Born July 18, 1996, in Kealakekua, he worked as a cook at his family’s business, the Korner Pocket Bar and Grill.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. May 31 at OTEC Beach Park.

He is survived by parents, Nelson and Deena Kahele of Captain Cook, Emma Kahele of Ocean View; brothers, Bruce (Ariana) Kahele Jr. of Honolulu, William Kahele of Ocean View, Issac (Emmalyn) Kahele of Milolii; sisters, Nalani (Eddie) Miller of Williston, N.D.; Sierra (Keoni) Kama of Ocean View, Leiahi Kahele, Salena Kahele and Waipiolani Kahele, all of Captain Cook, Judie Kahele of Kailua-Kona.

David Hanakeawe

David Kalei Hanakeawe, 63, of Keaau died May 6, 2015, at his home. Born Nov. 21, 1951, in Honolulu, he was an Army veteran and slack key artist.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

He is survived by son, Soloman (Kelli) Hanakeawe of Vernal, Utah; daughters, Janelle (Alan) Pencille of Gresham, Ore., Amanda Hanakeawe of Roy, Utah; brothers, Dennis (Mary) Hanakeawe of Elk Grove, Calif., Duane (Kathy) Hanakeawe of Parachute, Colo.; sisters, Donna Hanakeawe of Makakilo, Oahu, Diana (George) Furtado of Kapolei, Oahu, Doris Hanakeawe of Union, Ky., Denise (Randy) Little of Salinas, Calif., Devery (Delbert Kaleikini) Hanakeawe of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.

Thomas Billand

Thomas “Tommy” Alfred Billand, 65, of Keaau died May 19, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Oct. 4, 1949, in Honolulu, he was a former welder and fabricator, custom car builder and former member of Na Kane O Ke Awawa (Poi Pounders) Motorcycle Club.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by son, Christopher Billand; brothers, Frankie (Michaela) Billand, Robert (Barbara) Billand, Paul Billand, Leslie Billand; sister, Mary Delphine; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald Mock

Donald Mock, 90, of Hilo died May 14, 2015, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Seattle, he was the retired owner of Shamrock Spray Service on the mainland and a farmer on the Big Island.

He is survived by son, Randy Mock of Hansville, Wash.; daughters, Linda (Marcus) Murphy of Keaau, Diane Keanaaina of Kailua-Kona, Karen (Brad) Gibbs of Roseburg, Ore.; sisters, Lucile Felix of Olympia, Wash., Marjorie Whitworth of Seattle, Helen (James) Strang of Stanwood, Wash.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Erhard Emanuel Rick, 81, of Keaau died May 4, 2015, at home. Born in Danzig, Germany, he was a retired civil engineer with the Federal Aviation Administration.

He is survived by wife, Daghild Rick of Keaau; son, Roland Rick of Seattle; daughters, Sylvana (Paul) Martens of Seattle, Irene North of Ohio; brothers, Siegfrid (Gerti) Rick of Omaha, Neb., Erich (Lini) Rick of Florida; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Emiko Tokuuke

Emiko Tokuuke, 92, of Hilo died May 5, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born April 19, 1923, in Hilo, she was a retired seamstress for Paul’s Enterprises in Hilo and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

She is survived by sons, Rodney Tokuuke and Ralph (Joni) Tokuuke, both of Hilo; daughters, Evelyn Tanaka and Phyllis (Robert) Cabral, both of Hilo; brother, Jack (Miyo) Tanita of Hilo; sister, Sue Nishiyama of Hilo; five grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Tadashi Udo

Tadashi “Tad” Udo, 91, of Hilo died May 17, 2015, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born March 29, 1924, in Hilo, he was retired from Young Brothers Ltd. and a World War II Army veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Katherine Udo of Hilo; daughters, Leatrice (Dino) Venard and Patricia Udo, both of Hilo, Valerie (Leonard) Barcoma of Maui; son, Elston Udo of Hilo; brothers, Shigeo (Joyce) Sasahara, Ronald (Nona) Sasahara and Allan (Sharon) Sasahara, all of Hilo, Mamoru Sasahara of Kaneohe, Oahu, Sueji (Nancy) Sasahara of California, Terry (Jane) Sasahara of Kauai; sister, Yukie (George) Nishihara of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
