Irene Lee

Irene “Gramma Lee” Potbury Lee, 97, of Holualoa died May 8, 2015, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born June 29, 1917, in Wailuku, Maui, she was a secretary for St. Augustine Elementary School, former proprietor of Hanauma Bay Concession, an active partner with The Club in Kona, life member of Cousins of the Hulihee Palace, a volunteer at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hawaii Police Department and the Hawaii County Elections Office.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 25 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Alii Drive for a 10 a.m. Mass. A graveside service and inurnment will be held 12:45 p.m. May 30 at Diamond Head Memorial Park in Honolulu. Condolences may be sent to the Lee family at 75-5699 Kopiko St., Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.

She is survived by son, James Lee of Honolulu; daughter, Rose Price of Nevada; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gerard Lee Loy

Gerard Damian Kahiapookalani Lee Loy, 67, of Pepeekeo died May 1, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an attorney and owner of Gerard D. Lee Loy, ESQ, and member of the Hawaii State Bar Association, Hawaii County Bar Association, Puna Canoe Club, Keaukaha Canoe Club, Keaukaha Panaewa Farmers Association, Na Koa Football Boosters and a member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha Mamalahoa Chapter and a Vietnam Navy veteran.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 25 at Kawananakoa Gym in Keaukaha for an 11 a.m. celebration of his life. There will be a private committal service. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Susan Lee Loy of Pepeekeo; daughters, Michele (Maxfield) Namahoe of Panaewa, Kathleen (Chris) Leonard of Hilo; stepsons, Brian (Erika) Jahn and Bradley Jahn, both of Riverside, Calif.; brothers, Blase (Martha) of Holualoa, Lambert (Beverly) Lee Loy, Sean (Mary) Lee Loy, Emmett and Hilary, all of Honolulu, Ian (Sue) of Panaewa; sisters, Bridgit Bales, Maureen (Moke) Rawlins, Hedwig Warrington and Elizabethanne (Milton) Masaoka, all of Panaewa, Monica (Dan) Morris of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

John Caneda Sr.

John Michael Angelo Cole “Mac” Caneda Sr., 51, of Hilo died May 12, 2015, at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Kailua, Oahu, he was an auto body mechanic with CNJ Service, member of the National Rifle Association and Grand Master of Filipino Martial Arts.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. May 26 the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m service, followed by cremation. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Charmaine Caneda of Hilo; son, John (Sherri) Caneda Jr. of Kapaa, Kauai; daughters, Tasha (Allan) Caneda, Chantel (Vince) Caneda, both of Hilo; brothers, Lino (Jeanie) Caneda Jr. of Kauai, Al (Debrah) Caneda of Oahu; sister, Joann (Sione) Olevao of Oahu; two grandchildren.

Howard Perreira

Howard Louis Perreira, 84, of Hilo died May 14, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Jan. 26, 1931, in Honolulu, he was a retired general labor foreman for Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co., member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and a retiree of the Laborers Union Local 368.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. May 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by, wife, Gwen Perreira of Hilo; sons, Andy (Evelyn) Perreira of Aiea, Oahu, Mark (Roxanne) Perreira of Kaneohe, Oahu, Michael (Becky) Perreira of Vail, Ariz., James (Maria Leonila) Perreira of Mountain View; brother, Clifford (Mary Beth) Perreira of Hibbing, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Celestino Martinez Jr.

Celestino “Martin” Ambrose Martinez Jr., 57, died May 14, 2015. She born Nov. 15, 1957, in Honolulu, worked as a produce manager at the Waikoloa Village Market.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. May 30 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waimea 1st Ward.

He is survived by wife, Noe Martinez of Waikoloa; sons, Eleo Martinez and Maka Martinez, both of Waikoloa; daughters, Lii Martinez, Kea Martinez and Malia Martinez,all of Waikoloa; sisters, Ida Malakaua of Hilo, Mary Martinez of Las Vegas.

Josephine Estabilio

Josephine “JO” Estabilio, 73, of Kapaau died April 19, 2015, at her residence. Born Sept. 14, 1941, in Kohala, she was a hostess and waitress at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and member of the Kohala Senior Citizens and Kalahikiola Congregational Church.

Friends may call at noon May 31 at Kalahikiola Congregational Church in Halaula for a 1 p.m. service. Burial will be private at Waianaia cemetery in Halaula. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

Edwin Hao

Edwin “Eddie” Hao, 74, of Captain Cook died March 18, 2015, at his residence. Born June 26, 1940, in Kealakekua, he was a maintenance man at Kona Inn Shopping Village, a security officer, janitor and a ranch hand at Hualalai Ranch.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. May 31 at the big pavilion at Old Kona Airport Park for a service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Fowers are welcome.

He is survived by sons, Alan Navas of Napoopoo, Edwin Hao Jr. of Honaunau, Shannon (Shannon) Hao of Kealia; brother, Rofley Hao of Kalaoa; sisters, Annie Mandaquit and and Darlen Sanoria, both of Kalaoa, Jane (Henry) Serion of Holualoa; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mieko Kuritani

Mieko Kuritani, 85, of Kurtistown died May 9, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 31, 1929, in Holualoa, she was a retired customer service representative at Sears, Roebuck and Co. and member of Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple Kyodan and Fujinkai.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

She is survived by daughter, Kathleen (Steven Hurt) Sakamoto of Hilo; sister, Alice Kuritani of Chandler, Ariz.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Kelley Ching

Kelley Martinee Ching, 54, of Kailua-Kona died May 15, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 5, 1960, in Norfolk, Va., she was a massage therapist, owner of The Balance Body and volunteer for Therapeutic Horsemanship Hawaii Kona.

Private services were held.

She is survived by husband, Michael Chang of Kailua-Kona; mother, Dorothy Johnson of Kailua-Kona; hanai sister, Christine (Kalei) Lindsey of Waimea; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Dortha Krist

Dortha Richards Krist, 95, of Honokaa died Nov. 14, 2014, at her residence. Born Sept. 21, 1919, in Salem, Ore., she was a home economist, teacher, homemaker and former member of the Progressive Oregonians, Multnomah County Board of Elections, PTA and former member and past president of the Garden Club in Manzanita, Ore.

A service in Oregon will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Will Flavelle and Vern Krist, both of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Debra Filippini of Honokaa; four grandchildren; one great-grandson.
