HONOLULU (AP) — An opihi picker has suffered critical injuries after falling 50 feet from a steep cliff onto rocks below in Haiku on Maui.

HONOLULU (AP) — An opihi picker has suffered critical injuries after falling 50 feet from a steep cliff onto rocks below in Haiku on Maui.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1IRjuxo ) that officials say the 38-year-old Maui man was found lying face down between boulders at the water’s edge. He was conscious and breathing when crews found him Wednesday morning.

Firefighters had been dispatched to the scene after a bystander reported he had witnessed the fall.

The victim was airlifted to a pasture where he received medical attention.
